A3 spiral and staple bound standard issue Coming from teaching and learning, I was interested in how sketchbooks and journals could work more effectively for young people. What emerged was that youngsters started to take more ownership, looked at my journals as a reference point, and a stronger narrative and deeper understanding of the formation of independent artworks developed. From there, diverse methods of constructing books and book as artform, and as artwork in itself was more highly valued. I started to make 'stems' or the suggestion of the start of a book through folding, or words, or images. www.plumbumvisualarts.com/books Over the last few years, I have made books from my old love letters, exploring the conceptual and sculptural notion of 'book'. www.plumbumvisualarts.com/vanitas |
