Why Bookarts? I feel fortunate to be part of this small group of kind, caring and creative people. Bookarts brought us together alongside a love of making and sharing. It is such treat to be able to see what has been made and hearing responses and ideas flow.
What materials do you like to use? I search antique markets and charity shops for cloth, blankets, domestic objects and wooden boxes. I take my found objects through a journey of destruction and transformation. I use a wide variety of 'tools' - from paper and ink, rust and stains, wire and nails along with time and the elements to create marks.
What inspires you? I am drawn to themes of struggle and growth, loss and acceptance. Listening to people, their thoughts and stories can set ideas pulsing. Museums, galleries, gardens, the radio and walks all inform my work. If I am in a 'looking mood" I can find inspiration in almost anything. I need to engage the germ of an idea then start searching until "click' - I know when I have found something. It is like recognising the face of a loved one in a crowd. Having found a starting point I start 'troubling' on it until something starts to form.
