With spring starting to give way to summer, we have decided it is time for a change. As with all things, they evolve over time and as a group we are presently reviewing where we are, what we want and how we might achieve that. In essence, we will be working on the website and giving it a new look.over the next few months.
While these thoughts were being discussed today at this months meeting, we couldn't"t help get distracted for a while to take a look at Karens latest piece. A cloth book which has beautiful Kantha stitching across the cover. The various pieces of fabric included small pieces which had been dyed by Gwen. It is a cloth sketch book with blank pages ready for some more stitching...

Chris Ruston and Karen Apps will joining eight other artists in this exciting exhibition which opens on the 30Th April at the Loft Gallery Blickling Hall, Norfolk.
Don't forget participating artists at this year’s event have been invited to make a piece of work which fits into a matchbox. We need visitors to cast their vote for their favourite. A special trophy and 'Bookmaking goodie bag' will go the winning artist, and a special prize of a collection of handmade note/sketchbooks will be given to the lucky visitor who cast a vote. Make sure you join us! It will be fun! 'Immemoratea Commemoratea’ is a book of a 100 repurposed blank pages to remember women lost to history. At this year's Artbookart Fair Gwen Simpson is inviting the public to write a page in the second book ‘Commemoratea’ as an act of remembering the great lives of past and present women.

A second book for the sequential chain poetry and artist Book of Sand. Hand cutting the silver birch trees for the centre page. Gwen's own art work features only once in each book, they happen to be birds in flight. There are some happy accidents too such as her grand daughter's drawing watching the antics of the wrapping paper cat playing with the sewing cotton. |
