An Inventory of Al-Mutanabbi Street opens today at the John Rylands Library, Manchester. A number of artists featured on Artbookart will be among the 260 artists from around the world taking part.Margaret Cooter, Gwen Simpson, Janet Bradley, Karen Apps and Chris Ruston will all be showing work.
The exhibition also opens in America, and a complete set of books has been donated to the National Iraqi Library. Poet Beau Beausoleil and Book Artist Sarah Bodman have worked tiressly to coordinate the project, to "reassmble" the "inventory" of reading material that was lost in the bombing of Al-Mutanabbi Street on 5th March 2007.
Book Artists were asked to reflect both the strength and fragility of books, but also the the endurance of the ideas within them.
There will be a curator tour on Tuesday 5th March 1.00pm-2.00pm, in which you can join Sarah Bodman, Angie Butler, and Pauline Lamont-Fisher as they walk around the exhibition.
